To save the Rebel Alliance from this Imperial onslaught, Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles have assembled the Rogue Squadron, a group of twelve of the most skilled battle-tested starfighter pilots. The mighty Empire is gathering strength for a determined, all-out assault on the Rebel forces. Luke Skywalker, with the help of Wedge Antilles, has blown up the Death Star. The DS version has the traditional class-based structure, 4 player online, and is played from an isometric view.It is a time of great rejoicing in the galaxy. The PSP version also plays from the traditional third-person perspective. The PSP version includes customizable characters (armor, weapons, and abilities), weapon loadouts, and 16 players online combat with stat tracking. The Playstation Portable version has a few differences from the DS version.

Players will play through the battles at different scales, including in outer space as they control spacecraft. In Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron, players control a rogue Clone Trooper who is fighting for the Rebellion through various conflicts from the Star Wars Universe.
